Module 2:
After reading about effective study skills, I’ve noticed that while I have some experience, I haven’t mastered skills like taking notes, outlining textbooks, and organizing my notes for revision. My weaker areas are managing my time, revising my schedule, and making every hour count.
One management skill I need to improve is prioritization. I tend to leave important tasks until the last moment, and I should learn to avoid this. Additionally, I need to work on overcoming procrastination.
I understand the importance of effective project management for achieving success, and I’ve found that some strategies are very helpful. For example, the Gantt Chart is something I’ve heard of before, but I only learned about it in detail recently. Starting with a Work Breakdown Structure and creating a chart are useful strategies to complete tasks within the required timeframe.
My top three picks from the previous capstone projects include OtterParsing, which is a resume parser. This project allows users to upload multiple resumes and extract key points using a search tool, making it easier to quickly review a large number of resumes. The presentation showed that it takes some time to parse five consecutive resumes, but overall, the project and its presentation are fantastic.
The next project is focused on using computer vision to identify brain tumors through image segmentation and machine learning. It allows for testing subjects, and I appreciated both the project and its presentation.
Last but not least is Infinity Areas, a modding tool for games that use the Infinity Engine. Although I haven’t played any games made with that engine, I found it interesting that the mod allows users to modify the environments of those games.
This week, I practiced improving my writing structure skills using APA format. I also noticed that I didn’t follow my schedule as closely as I should have, so I need to prioritize sticking to it more effectively.
Activity Log Sheet:
Your time management schedule contains lots of time dedicated to working on assignments, and the study times are spread out throughout the week as well, which I think is really beneficial. I think it's also great that there are some empty slots as well, but I would recommend marking them as "Free Time" or something similar; I think taking time to intentionally relax and recharge is essential.
